Rain in Colorado

It seems like we have one week every year of actual rain in Colorado - rain that doesn't stop after five minutes. This has been that week.

With mid-40 temperatures yesterday and a track workout scheduled, I went to the rec center during prime time (5:30 pm) and was astonished to find several empty treadmills. Had a great run. Charo gave me a 20 minute warm up, 8 x 400 on 2:00 with 2:00 rest interval and 10 minute cool down. I told her that I felt as though I could have pushed those 400's harder but I resisted the temptation to do so; she called me this morning to say that that's exactly where she wants me to be: wanting to push harder, but not doing it yet.

Today she and I went for a couple hours' ride - much of it in the rain. Low 50's but I was wearing my nice new Altitude Multisport Club jacket - a GREAT piece of gear! I have been riding in my running jacket, which has nothing like the same windproofing. Would have been miserable out there in my old getup but I was fine today (except for my feet; I really should have stuck my warm socks into some newspaper bags and then into my shoes). Great ride. A couple of hours, most of which was relatively easy.

There were a couple of times when I pushed it a little and when I'd turn around Charo was right there. Really nice to train with someone when I know that no matter how hard I push it, they'll be right there with me (not hard, really, since I am old and wheezy and ride a 50-pound Schwinn).

OK, it's not a Schwinn.

But I drank no water on the ride - after all, when it's cold and raining I don't feel that what I need is more water - so I was nicely dehydrated when I got home. Weighed myself and was quite pleased to see that I was down a few pounds. Of course I'm sure that now that I'm rehydrated I'm much closer to Clydesdale-hood but it was a nice, if fleeting, illusion.
